Week 10 finally (B-lister Bowl!)

Alright this is it!  PLAYOFFS!  It's been a hell of a season so why stop there.  We still have one more day with teams potentially playing up to 3 games!  Who knows, it could get crazy!

First off TL;DR (But try to read this anyway!)

This season's B-Lister Bowl will consist of 3 rounds, each with a different set of Wacky rules.  These rules are as follows:

QUARTER-FINALS (5pm games):

Gambling - If the runner makes it safely to the base they possess the option to “gamble” by playing RPS (one round) against the fielder at the respective base. If the runner wins, they may advance to the next base. If the runner loses, they are out. The runner may choose to “gamble” until a score is recorded or the runner is out.

SEMI-FINALS (6pm games):

Backwards base running - 3rd base is now 1st base, 2nd base is still 2nd base, and 1st base is third base. All runners must run clockwise around the bases.  If a runner runs counter-clockwise to start, they must run back to home plate before they can advance back the correct way.

FINAL (7pm game):

Dodgeball - Any fields may safely throw the ball at a runner to tag them out per usual. However,  if the fielder attempts to peg the runner and the runner can safely catch the ball, the runner is safe at the intended base. The fielder who attempted to tag the runner must take the bench for the remainder of the inning and the defense plays down one player. When the ball is caught by a runner, the play ends. The runner must catch and maintain control of the ball, otherwise they are out. Balls may only be thrown at the runner for this rule to apply, and not kicked. Runners may not catch the ball after they have safely reached the base.

BUNTING IS ALLOWED.  Pitching to the other team is happening.  In regards to pitching:  It was said before but I'll say it again just as a friendly reminder: No "hard pitching."   Guidelines for how these will be treated by referee's:

1) On first "hard pitch" called by head ump it will be called a no-pitch.  Giving the pitcher AND the kicker another attempt at the ball.  Since its 2 pitch if it happens on the first kick they get to start over with 2 fresh pitches.  If it's the 2nd it's just a repeat of the 2nd pitch. First time comes with a warning and the aforementioned solution.

2)  If the pitching continues with "hard pitching" then treat it like a "ball" on the first attempt and a walk on the next attempt after that.

3) "Nominal pitches" are straight forward "bowling" rolls that move towards the plate at a fair & moderate pace.  No speed balls, and no overhead bouncy balls.

**Side Note**  No intentional walks will be allowed either.

Week 9 (Last Regular Season Games)

TGIF!  We're on the final stretch of the season and are on our last week of games.

This weeks wacky rule is:

Cha-Ching (Automatic One Base Bonus) - If the kick is a single and the runner reaches 1st base safely, the runner is automatically awarded 2nd base. If it’s a double, and the runner reaches 2nd base safely, the runner automatically advances to 3rd. If it’s a triple, and the runner reaches 3rd base safely, the runner automatically advances to home plate, recording a score. This only applies to the kicker, unless there are runners already on base, in which case they are forced to advance.

This week is an even week so NO BUNTING and pitching to your own team.  Remember, you only have two pitches and you HAVE to kick the second pitch no matter what, or you're out!

Just a heads up.  Next week is Playoffs.  It's going to take us 3 hours instead of 2 to get through to the championship game so GAME TIMES WILL START AT 5PM for Quarter Finals, 6PM for Semi Finals, and 7PM for the Final game.  THAT'S AN HOUR EARLIER THAN USUAL!  Be Prepared!  Especially the 3rd-6th ranked teams.

A Playoff bracket will be posted after I get the results of Sunday's games early next week.

For the Halloween theme pictures Sith Happens was our number 1 picture choice by SoCal WAKA Staff with Balls Deep coming in 2nd.  Congrats on the extra bonus points!

Alright, enough of my gibberish.  Have a great weekend and see you Sunday!

Week 8!

Week 8!  Playoffs are around the corner, and guess what?  Your team made it!  So get your kicking shoes on and stop worrying.  We still have two more weeks of regular season play.

This week's Wacky Rule:

Left or Right? - Kick with your opposite foot. - You're just going to have to be honest here kids.  But let's be honest, most of you should be kicking with your left foot this week! :D

Bunting allowed and normal pitching rules apply.

Normally I'd have the results for the Halloween: Frightful or Flirty pictures completed by now but I forgot my social chair doesn't have access to the staff pages so I'll have the results in some time next week!

Keeping this week's blog entry short and sweet.  So.

Week 7 - THEME WEEK: Halloween: Flirty or Frightening?

IT'S THEME WEEK AGAIN!  From scary to sexy and everything in between.  What will you be?!?  Things are getting hot and heavy with the top team taking its first loss and now it's anyone's season!  But let me be honest, I just want to see who's going to win social this season!

Anyway, this week's Wacky Rule, decided by your lovely captains with a near even split:

Small Ball -  Play with a smaller, 8.5" rubber ball. Kick away with no bunting!

It's an ODD week so self pitching, and defense still has to man pitcher and catcher positions.

As we did last time please be sure to post a picture of your team with #teamname #halloween no later than Tuesday @12pm so I can submit them for an unbiased poll by our staff for two lucky winners of 3 extra social points.  Everyone gets 1 point for team participation!

The SCHEDULE has been changed and updated along with referee assignments so please make sure to check it out.

Week 6

Welcome to Week 6 everyone!

This week's wacky rule is:

Backwards base running - 3rd base is now 1st base, 2nd base is still 2nd base, and 1st base is third base. All runners must run clockwise around the bases.  If a runner runs counter-clockwise to start, they must run back to home plate before they can advance back the correct way.

It's an even week so bunting IS allowed and normal pitching rules apply.

As usual this season we will continue playing at the Poinsettia Rec Center.

Just a reminder that official start times are AT 6pm and AT 7pm. Each game gets a grace period of 15 minutes to start. Games should start NO LATER than 6:15 or 7:15. It is the responsibility of the captains and the referee's to make sure the games start on time. After the 0:50 mark (6:50 and 7:50) there should be no new innings but the inning you're in shall be completed. The innings should still be played to completion according to standard WAKA rules. The game does not officially end at 0:50. If the home team is behind and you have hit the 0:50 mark, they may get the last opportunity at bat to finish out the completed inning.  If they gain a lead in that time, it will be considered a walk off victory.  Any questions about that please let me know!

Just a heads up that next week will be our 2nd THEME WEEK.  The theme is "Halloween:  Frightful or Flirty."  Are you scary?  Are you sexy?  Maybe a strange mix of both?  The suspense just might KILL me, but it is that time of year isn't it?   *Que intense maniacal laugh*

Check out the SCHEDULE to see who you're playing and at what time.

Week 5

It's Week 5 and because of a long post-Vegas week, I'm going to keep this one short.  Hope you all had a blast last weekend and thanks to everyone who came out for our Mid-season Pub Golf crawl.  It was a blast!

This weeks wacky rule:

Golden Ball - 6 outs per inning.  A legal catch records 2 outs instead of 1. No bunting allowed.

It's an odd week so you'll be pitching to your own team!

HERE are the standings as of this week

Week 4

Hello again and hope your week is going well!  After 3 weeks we still have 2 undefeated teams, Balls Deep, and Dumbledore's Army!  How exciting.  Will they survive another week and keep the streak alive?  Also, the social games have been a ton of fun and I can't wait to see what's coming up next.

Anyway, this weeks Wacky Rule:

Rabbit in a Hat - Teams must choose the kicking order using a deck of cards. Aces first, 2's last. (Spades(highest), hearts, diamonds, clubs(lowest)).

Or you can draw numbers from a hat and go that way.  Whatever tools you have at your convenience!

This week is an even week so bunting is allowed and normal pitching rules apply.

REMINDER that we are currently playing at the Poinsettia Recreational Center until further notice due to faulty lights at our Hollywood Rec.

Everyone's t-shirts are in so if you haven't gotten them yet please speak to your captains.  Captains if you are missing any please let me know, but they should all be accounted for!

Week 3 - THEME WEEK

Welcome to Week 3 everyone!   This week's wacky rule:

Tee Ball - The kickball is Teed up just behind home plate.  Kicker kicks the ball in place.  Standard foot placement applies.  Catcher and pitcher positions must still be manned.   No bunting!

Normally this week would be pitch to own team but because we are tee'ing up, no need!  Also, if the rule itself didn't already say so, this is an odd week so NO BUNTING!

This week is our NFL THEME WEEK. What that means?  That means Jersey's, costumes, mascots, cheerleaders, you name it.  If it's NFL related it counts!  Direct quote from our Social Chairs:
"WEEK 3 / THEME WEEK! - NFL. What does NFL mean to you? Wear your favorite NFL jersey, dress as an umpire, a cheerleader - the choice is yours. Take a team photo in all your NFL glory and post the picture to the league Facebook group by 5PM on Monday with the hashtags #NFL and #yourteamname. All photos will be voted on by WAKA staff and winners will be announced shortly after."

All participating teams will get 1 social point.  Top 2 teams will get 3 bonus points voted on by our unbiased staff!  So be creative, photoshop if you must.

Also, the rest of the t-shirts arrived, so you guys will all be beautiful and uniformed at the same time for Week 4!

Thanks and see you Sunday!

Week 2

Welcome to another season of kickball!  We started Week 1 without a hitch, and now that we're getting into our groove, all sorts of craziness can commence!  Let's start with this weeks Wacky Rule, as voted by your prestigious Captains:

Gambling - If the runner makes it safely to the base they possess the option to “gamble” by playing RPS (one round) against the fielder at the respective base. If the runner wins, they may advance to the next base. If the runner loses, they are out. The runner may choose to “gamble” until a score is recorded or the runner is out.

This week will be normal pitching and bunting IS allowed.  Two-pitch rule stands.

Remember that next week will be our NFL theme week.  Start preparing now.  That means Jersey's, costumes, mascots, cheerleaders, you name it.  If it's NFL related it counts!  Until then, let's enjoy a normal week with our T-shirts which HAVE ARRIVED and are accounted for!  As I announced earlier there are only a few people who won't get those shirts (due to late registration), but your shirts will be in by Week 3!

Thanks again for your patience regarding the bar games.  There are 3 leagues up there at the same time (soon to be 2 once flag football playoffs are over) and it might be difficult to get your revenge matches in, but Courtney and Jasmine are doing their best to coordinate the dodgeball and Kickball games.  They're doing a great job and VOLUNTEERING so please show them some love.

Otherwise, keep on keeping on.  Have a great rest of the week and See you for Sunday Funday!

HERE are the current Field Standings after Week 1.

WEEK 1 SOCIAL

JASMINE MCATEE:
Welcome to Celebrity, y'all! I along with Courtney Cohen will be your social chairs for this season. If you have any questions about the social schedule, which will be released for the season next week with the standings chart, feel free to ask us at any time. Challenges start after both the 6pm & 7pm games have completed, so about 8:30pm.
Here are your social challenges for Week 1:
WEEK 1 / SOCIAL CHALLENGE - 21 Beer Pong. Four people from each team will participate - 2 guys, 2 girls. Two people are the shooters, two people are the retrievers. There will be 21 cups stacked at the end of a table. Shooters will be provided two ping pong balls. If a ball lands in a cup, the retriever must drink the cup before the shooter can shoot again. Two re-racks allowed. Players can only switch sides during a re-rack. Timer does not stop for re-racks. You have **3 minutes** to knock out as many cups as possible. Two balls in one cup only counts for one cup. Team to knock out all 21 cups the quickest - or, in the event that no team knocks out all 21, team with the fewest cups remaining at the end of 3 minutes - wins. First place receives 4 points, 2nd place gets 3 points, 3rd place gets 2 points, and all other participating teams get 1 point. Teams are responsible for supplying their own beer for this challenge.
REVENGE MATCH - This challenge is all season long. The losing team from your field match up challenges the winner to a revenge match of their choice. It can be flip cup, beer pong, 21, Civil War, doesn't matter. Winner of revenge match gets 1 social point.
See you this Sunday!

FALL SCHEDULE IS UP!

Alright, after some grueling task taking the schedule is finally out! I tried to be as accommodating to the dodgeballers playing on the same day so hopefully this helps at least some of you:
It's still not too late to sign up and pad your teams with bodies for those days when friends are on vacation and such so keep on registering as it will be closed after week 1 THIS SUNDAY!
Congratulations to SITH HAPPENS for reaching team status second. You guys have earned 2 pitchers of beer for your first week of indulgence!
T-shirts are being ordered now so Week 1 you'll have to wear your team colors out of your own wardrobe. Sorry for the inconvenience but because the season came so quickly many of us were teamed last minute. Teams are as follows: Sith Happens (Charcoal Grey), Pitches Be Crazy (Purple), Dumbledore's Army (White), Balls Deep (Cardinal Red), Ball of Duty (Black), and The PINK Bambino (Pink).
Jasmine McAtee and Courtney Cohen will be announcing this week's social challenge soon so you can prepare yourselves for the skill and talent needed to succeed and build your way to becoming this seasons SOCIAL CHAMPIONS! In my opinion, the crown of Celebrity!
Cheers and see you SUNDAY!!! WOOOOO!

Fun Games and Playoff Finale

Congratulations to On Sundays We Wear Pink and Ball of Duty on making it to the final round in the playoffs!  This will surely be a battle of the colors as the fate of the entire season sits on this final game.  WHO WILL BE VICTORIOUS?  Who will be left to wallow in shame...or in alcohol?  Who knows!

Before we talk about that lets get the fun stuff out of the way and save the boring stuff for those who need it later:

FUN GAMES TOURNAMENT!  You paid for 10 weeks of kickball and you're going to GET 10 weeks of kickball!  We have a separate bracket for all of us less fortunate souls who weren't able to make it to the final.  If you want to come out and have some fun and get your drink on then join us.  If you don't have enough people to form a team but some of you and your friends still want to come out, we'll create new teams and make up our own rules!  All for fun, like kickball is meant to be played!  These games will be at 4pm, and 6pm (possibly one at 5pm but I'd like to watch the finals game).

Here are the details on this final game:
Backwards base running redux - 3rd base is now 1st base, 2nd base is still 2nd base, and 1st base is third base. All runners must run clockwise around the bases.  If a runner runs counter-clockwise to start, they must run back to home plate before they can advance back the correct way.

BUNTING IS ALLOWED.  Pitching to the other team is happening.  In regards to pitching:  It was said before but I'll say it again just as a friendly reminder:
No "hard pitching."   Guidelines for how these will be treated by referee's:

No intentional walks will be allowed either.

Alright kittens, thanks for reading and have a great rest of the week.  See you Sunday!

Cheers

Playoffs and YOU!

Welcome to the return of playoffs!  Two more weeks of games and drinking before our own EOS gathering and the Regional Bon Voyage EOS party!  Again congratulations to On Sundays We Wear Pink for getting the most coveted title in Celebrity of Social Champs!

Hope everyone had a great Independence Day weekend with lots of fireworks and grilling followed by drinkies and possible debauchery!  That being said it's time to get to the meat of this blog post!  PLAYOFFS!

We all know the general guidelines but here are the highlights for this week:

We have a comeback rule this week -
Return of Dodgeball - Any fielders may safely throw the ball at a runner to tag them out per usual. However,  if the fielder attempts to peg the runner and the runner can safely catches the ball, the runner is safe at the intended base. The fielder who attempted to tag the runner must take the bench for the remainder of the inning and the defense plays down one player. When the ball is caught by a runner, the play ends. The runner must catch and maintain control of the ball, otherwise they are out. Balls may only be thrown at the runner for this rule to apply, and not kicked by the next kicker. Runners may not catch the ball after they have safely reached the base.

Also there is NO BUNTING this week as usual for odd weeks so teams will be pitching to themselves.  A bunt for our league purposes is "A full extension of the leg with the intended effect being to propel the ball forward at a fair and reasonable distance."  A bunt on any pitch will be considered a FOUL for the purposes of tracking pitches.   Normal TWO-PITCH rule applies.  Since it's self-pitch this week the second pitch MUST be put into play or it is an out.  No walks, no free bases.  Outside of that the bunting rule will be at the referee's discretion following the simple guidelines that have been set.  Any questions or concerns please email or Facebook me!

THIS SEASON WE WILL HAVE A NEW FUN GAMES BRACKET for those of you who don't make it to the championship round.  This will happen on week 10 (July 17th) @ 4pm-Semi's & 6pm-Final.  The Celebrity Championship will be @ 5pm  (July 17th).  I will attach a bracket so you have an idea of what it will look like.

Schedule as of now.

Playoff Bracket as of now.

Cheers and See you Sunday!

4th of July weekend and Playoffs details!

Hey Celebs!  The regular season is now finished and we officially have our Social and regular season field champs.  Congratulations to On Sundays We Wear Pink for running away with the most drunkiest (ahem, social) points in the most drunkiest (ahem, most social) league in SoCal!  You guys fought for it and earned it.  Also congratulations to Dumbledore's Army (shameless self plug) for finishing the regular season and earning the top seed.  BUT, that means nothing as the shadow of playoffs loom over us.  Who will reign supreme?  Who will upset the current standings?  Who cares?  This is Celebrity!  Let's have a good time!

The playoff bracket is up and running and can be seen on the league page HERE by clicking the "Wacky Championship Series" tab under Playoffs on the right.  You may have to scroll down a little.  The time slots and field placements are available by going to "View Schedule."

We are going to be dedicated time slots on week 10 for a separate Bowl so that everyone can still play 10 weeks of kickball (you paid for it after all!) regardless of the results of week 9!  We have the field until 7pm so we're going to take advantage and get you going.  The first round of that will happen 4pm on July 17th.  5pm will be the Championship game that same day.  6pm will be the consolation championship game (working title)!  Then off to the bar one more time before our EOS and the Bon Voyage Regional EOS!

Regarding playoffs:

We will be doing wacky rules for each round of playoff games.  Each round can have different rules, but every game in that round will use the same rules.   There are no intentional walks during playoffs as well for Celebrity.  Take that kind of strategizing to Founders Cup.  Lastly, NO "hard pitching."  It's something I haven't seen all season and AGAIN, this is Celebrity, not Hollywood or Studio!  We're sticking to the two-pitch rule so it wouldn't make any sense anyway!

Rules for the playoff's will be decided week of.  Just like the regular season Week 9 there will be NO BUNTING, Week 10 there will be bunting allowed!  Any questions feel free to contact me and we will clarify everything before next week Sunday.

For the Consolation bracket (working title) it'll be no holds barred whatever you guys want!  Make it fun, make up new rules!  Have multiple rules at once.  Whatever!!!

DON'T FORGET it's 4th of July weekend so playoffs will not start until the following week.  If you show up to the fields you will be sadly wasting a perfectly good Sunday Funday alone! ;)

Have a wonderful weekend and talk to you all soon!

Last week of the regular season! WEEK 8!

Welcome to the last and final week of the regular season!  Who will make it to the playoffs?  (Hint: Everyone).  Who will topple the Social leaders of the Pink team?  Can anyone do it?!  We'll find out THIS SUNDAY.

This week's rule is: Rabbit in a Hat - Teams must choose the kicking order using a deck of cards. Aces first, 2's last. (Spades(highest), hearts, diamonds, clubs(lowest)).  ***Or get bring a sheet of paper and tear them to pieces with numbers in each piece.  Draw them out of a hat and write down your kicking order.***    Point is, RANDOM LINE UPS, no stacking this week (sorry hardcore kickballers!).  ;)

Don't forget this week is THEME WEEK and the social challenge is Lip Sync Battle.  Will people take advantage and combine the two to attach costume to performance?  Or will some teams change it up and go off the wall?  I can't wait to see the creative magic happen!

Again, playoffs are around the corner so remember last week's blog/email.  It's all about the bragging rights so bring your fun B-list celebrity game!  We will be planning to do a "Celebrity Bowl" Week 10 for any teams that don't make it through the first round.  You paid for 10 weeks, and I want you to have it!  Plus it's one more week to party with the entire league, #AMiRIGHT?

Alright!  Cheers and See you Sunday!  Any questions feel free to hit up EDWIN in the Facebook or via email.

Week 7!

Hey everyone!   We're 6 weeks out going into Week 7 and playoffs are right around the corner.  Let's start off with this weeks rule:

Golden Ball - 6 outs per inning.  A legal catch records 2 outs instead of 1. No bunting allowed.

Pretty simple so let's see those pop flies and all those clutch catches!

Regarding playoffs I just wanted to clarify some things.  Maybe they don't need it, but allow me a serious blog moment just in case:  We will be doing wacky rules for each round of playoff games.  Each round can have different rules, but every game in that round will use the same rules.   There are no intentional walks during playoffs as well for Celebrity.  Take that kind of strategizing to Founders Cup.  Lastly, please refrain from "hard pitching."  It's something I haven't seen all season but you never know!  We're sticking to the two-pitch rule so it wouldn't make any sense anyway!

Ok!  That being said, get ready for a great end of the year!  Hopefully Father's Day won't kill too many of us this week... I know how much many of us love our daddy's!

Cheers and see you Sunday!

Field Standings  It's all good and dandy but once playoffs happen, this will only be a minor footnote!

Celebrity Kickball is back from hiatus!

Welcome back to Sunday Funday kickball!  Between memorial day bbq's, camping, and parties AND WAKA Summer camp, I'm sure your livers have all received plenty of exercise!  That's what Celebrity is all about so good for you all who survived.  Hopefully your Celebrity training did you well.  If those snapchats and facebook posts I've been seeing are any indicator, some debaucherous good times were had.

That being said, we have the rule of the week, voted on by our illustrious captains, and this is what was decided:

Backwards base running - 3rd base is now 1st base, 2nd base is still 2nd base, and 1st base is third base. All runners must run clockwise around the bases.  If a runner runs counter-clockwise to start, they must run back to home plate before they can advance back the correct way.   BUNTING IS ALLOWED

You'd be surprised how often people mess up on this rule.  It is divine in its entertainment.

As per usual here are the current standings.  Will Kickers of The Year bring down the last undefeated team?!  Don't count them out, they can be quite sneaky those Kickers.  :)

And finally, HERE are our social standings.  It's still anybody's game with 3 weeks left.  Who will REIGN SUPREME as Celebrity's newest Social gods!?  This is the true embodiment of Celebrity kickball.  What you do at the bar is what matters the most!  So get thirsty and get out there!

Memorial Day Weekend

Hey everyone!  Last weekend was so much fun!  We had a great turnout for the mid-season AMAZING RACE!  So many teams participated and we all partied hard together.  Our inaugural Rock, Paper, Scissors tournament went off without a hitch, and drinks a-plenty were had by all!

Just a reminder that this week we won't be having any games for Memorial Day Weekend, so don't show up to the field unless you like open air and solitude!  Same goes for the following week due to WAKA Summer Camp!  Can't wait to hear the stories that come out of there THIS year.

In case you haven't been keeping track HERE are our current field standings.

And to see where we are with Social check it out in this spreadsheet.  We have a new leader and it's still anybody's game!

Cheers and enjoy your weekend!  See you in a few weeks!

Mid-Season Amazing Race and Week 5 Rules!

Hi guys!  Welcome to another blog.  If you haven't seen the results of our theme week and who the winners are, see the previous post.

We have a lot of fun things happening this weekend including our Mid-Season PARTY!
Happening THIS Saturday, May 21st.  Click the link for all the details!

This week's wacky rule is something I've never done before:

Tee Ball - The kickball is Teed up just behind home plate.  Kicker kicks the ball in place.  Standard foot placement applies.  Catcher and pitcher positions must still be manned.   No bunting!

Shout out to Paul O'Neil for offering up that idea and to the captains for voting on it!

Can't wait to game with you guys, and as always, click HERE for the latest update in Social Standings.  It's anybody's game!  Who will win the social championship?!  Plenty of opportunities for points!

This Week's equipment duties:
Bringing it to the field: Dumbledore's Army
Taking it home: On Sundays We Wear Pink

Ref duties:
4pm:
On Sundays We Wear Pink - Field 1
Kickers Of The Year - Grass 1

Saturday, May 14, 2016

Hey guys!  We're 3 weeks in and off to a stellar season so far.  This week's rule has been decided:

Double Occupancy - Each base may be occupied by two runners.  The force play to the next base only counts when there are two runners on the prior plate before the next kick and there are two occupants on all the bases before.  The second runner/occupant may not pass the first runner or it is an automatic out.

Don't forget it's also theme week.  I can't wait to see what all the teams come up with.

Also don't forget next Saturday, May 21st, is our big MID-SEASON AMAZING RACE.  Make sure to RSVP and think about the team you're going to create. https://www.facebook.com/events/979261435476637/

***** Lastly, the Mid-Season Surveys are out.  PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do them.  It takes 5 minutes and it'll let us know what we need to do to improve the rest of your season.  THANKS!  *****

See you Sunday!
